‘Can’t believe this will be the last time I’ll see some of these items, but it’s for a good cause,’ she said in a video announcing the event.
Fans of the Escapade singer can purchase box sets with the auction catalogs, as well as a video message from Jackson and an audio message inviting owners to the auction, which runs for $200 for the standard box set and $800 for a signed and numbered deluxe set.
Some of the items come from Jackson’s early ascent to superstardom, like a black-and-white photo of her with legendary actress Shirley Temple and a pencil drawing of her older sister La Toya Jackson, which had her name and Janet’s written in blue pen.
Also featured are more legendary costumes like the ones from her music videos for Love Will Never Do (Without You) and All For You.
Her outfit from the Scream clip co-starring her brother Michael sold for $125K and the Rhythm Nation look was nabbed for over $81K.
Executive Director at Julien’s Auctions Martin Nolan recently said celebrity bids on the items have been exciting for him to see.
‘It always really stuns me when a celebrity is so impressed with another celebrity that they want to own something from their collection. That’s most usual for us to know that there’s always other celebrities participating, wanting to own something — especially something so amazing from Janet Jackson because everything has been stored so well, it’s in pristine condition,’ he told Entertainment Tonight
The auction is expected to bring in $2 million.
