The reality star, whose life is usually perfectly managed by a team of handlers, security and support
staff, was caught in photos crying in a car with her husband Kanye West.
The incident was snapped by paparazzi after the couple left a Wendy’s fast food restaurant in
Wyoming, after a horror week for the mum of four.
West had attacked Kardashian and her family online, in a string of incidents that reportedly left the
reality star considering her “divorce options”. Kardashian said she’d been left “powerless” to help
her husband through the crisis, which she attributed to his bipolar disorder, and the “painful loss of
his mother”.
The heartbreaking moment was the first time the couple had been spotted since Kanye, at the time
campaigning to become President of the United States, had given a disastrous speech at a rally in
South Carolina.
A week earlier, Kanye had gone on a distressing spray on Twitter, accusing his mother in law Kris Jenner of “white supremacy”. He also said his wife was trying to “lock him up”, comparing the situation to horror film Get Out.
“Kanye has been experiencing a lot of anxiety lately,” a source told Us Weekly at the time. “He has been surrounded by a lot of people and started to feel really overwhelmed.”
“She (Kim) is very emotional about everything, and also exhausted,” another source told People after they were spotted in the car.
“She feels very hurt by Kanye. She has tried to reach him multiple times and he just ignores her. It’s all a bad situation.”
The source said Kardashian then made the decision to fly to Kanye’s ranch at Cody in Wyoming. “She doesn’t want to be ignored anymore.”
Kardashian later released a lengthy statement, acknowledging Kanye’s bipolar disorder. She called her husband a “brilliant but complicated person” and asked the media for “compassion”.
“Those that understand mental illness or even compulsive behaviour know that the family is powerless unless the member is a minor,” she wrote.
