Kim Kardashian Faces Backlash for Overshadowing Daughter North West’s “Lion King” Moment
Kim Kardashian recently found herself under fire on Instagram after donning an outfit reminiscent of North West’s
highly discussed “Lion King” ensemble. The “Kardashians” star’s attire was compared to that of Sarabi, the mother of
Simba, with fans criticizing her for overshadowing her daughter’s big moment.
The mother-daughter duo’s outfits were designed by ERL, with 10-year-old North opting for a butter-yellow fur-lined hoodie and matching sweat shorts for her onstage performance. Prior to the show, North accessorized her look with a fuzzy shearling messenger bag ($1,850), an oversized shearling leather coat ($8,700), and a massive trapper hat.
Kardashian, 43, posed in a photoshoot wearing the same pieces but added her signature flair. In one photo, she drew inspiration from Bianca Censori by wearing sheer leggings as pants. Other images featured her in fuzzy chaps with brown leather accents ($28,000) and a pale yellow bodysuit. One of her most dramatic looks included a floor-length hooded jacket in the same fuzzy yellow material. Instead of the fur-covered shoes worn by her daughter, Kardashian opted for clear stilettos.
Although the outfits were striking, many of Kardashian’s fans felt she was stealing the spotlight from North. One commenter wrote, “You really can’t let anyone have their moment,” while another added, “’Let’s make it about me.’” A third critic called the situation “absurd and ridiculous.” Another person lamented, “Imagine paying to let your daughter have a moment then not letting your daughter have a moment.”
One fan even referenced Kourtney Kardashian’s previous accusation that Kim copied her wedding aesthetic, writing, “So Kourtney was right .”
North West, the eldest child of Kim and Kanye West, played Young Simba in “The Lion King” production at the Hollywood Bowl over Memorial Day weekend. Celebrating the film’s 30th anniversary, North performed “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” with both she and Jennifer Hudson billed as “special guests” for the show.
